APPRENTICE SUPPORT MATERIALS

** Please note: "Coaching" guidelines can be replaced by any state's comprehensive novice teacher mentoring program. **

You will have 15 Coaching Sessions with your supervising administrator and/or member(s) of your educator team throughout the course of the year. These sessions will take place every 2-3 weeks after an observation. Both you and your coach will take notes on the Coaching Form below. This form is called the "Lesson Reflection Template" and is a product of the Center on Instruction, as part of their toolkit on "Designing Intensive Instruction" (intensiveintervention.org). During the coaching session, you will complete one form together to include in your portfolio. For each Coaching Session, you will document one success and one area for improvement, which you will return to during the next session.

Strategic Intervention is the most intense of the three requirements for FreeTeacher U. It requires you to select, implement, and evaluate six interventions with the guidance of your supervising administrator and educator team. The interventions can take place in any setting with any number of students who need intervention, either general or special education.

Please see the "Strategic Intervention" page listed on the main menu for instructions and guidance.

STRATEGIC INTERVENTION

COACHING

Part of your work as Apprentice and the work of your supervisors involves ensuring that you have met each of the Council for Exceptional Children's (CEC) initial preparation standards in your work throughout the year.

You will be given readings (links below) and experiences to assist you in meeting these standards. You will document how you have met each of these standards in your portfolio through a series of short papers. Be sure to provide evidence that you have met the standards where possible.
